Hawaii

A Taste of Hawaii — and a Touch of Nostalgia

Dinner at a Hawaiian restaurant brought more than just full stomachs — it stirred something nostalgic.

We Japanese love Hawaii. Not only for its beautiful nature and kind-hearted people, but also because we feel a quiet connection — a shared history. Many Japanese moved there long ago, and their spirit still lives on in the flavors of Hawaiian food. From Spam onigiri to loco moco, there’s a familiar comfort in every bite.

This is Mochiko Chicken, a Hawaiian favorite that feels just like our own karaage. Crispy, savory, and deeply satisfying — it reminded me how food can cross oceans and still carry the same soul.

And while I’m a tea lover through and through… I must admit, a cup of Kona coffee always hits the spot in Hawaii.
Tea or coffee, what matters is sharing something warm.
